Aselectronic products have come to feature
more sophisticated functions, more compact
sizes and lighter weights, the sources of
power that operate these products have been
required to deliver increasingly higher levels
of energy. To meet this requirement, nickel-metal
hydride batteries have been developed and
manu-factured with nickel hydroxide for the
positive electrode and hydrogen-absorbing
alloys capable of absorbing and releasing
hydrogen at high-density levels for the negative
electrode. Compared to Ni-Cd batteries, Ni-MH
batteries have about twice the energy density
and a similar operating voltage.
Features
A. Green power
Ni-MH batteries are free of Cadmium and mercury.
They are an environmental friendly chemical
power source.
B. Similarity with Ni-Cd batteries
These batteries have similar discharge characteristics
to those of Ni-Cd batteries.
C. Double the energy density
of conventional
batteries
SCE Ni-MH batteries have approximately double
the capacity compared with SCE’ standard
Ni-Cd batteries.
D. Cycle life equivalent to 500
charge and
discharge cycles
Like SCE Ni-Cd batteries, nickel-metal hydride
batteries can be repeatedly charged and discharged
for about 500 cycles(IEC 61436 charge and
discharge conditions).
E. Rapid charge in approx. 1.2
hours
SCE Ni-MH batteries can be rapidly charged
in about an hour using a specially designed
charger.
F. Excellent discharge characteristics
Since the internal resistance of nickel-metal
hydride batteries is low, conditions for
high-rate discharge up to 4CmA is possible,
similar to Ni-Cd batteries. Types and applications
In order to widen the useful applications
of the SCE Ni-MH cell and to use its advantages
to the fullest, special purpose types have
been developed. Detailed characteristics
of special purpose batteries are shown eleswhere
as individual data sheets.
